Gay Hawkes is an established artist whose most recent show was a major retrospective at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, called "The House of Longing".
She has also worked in gaols, indigenous communities and fourteen art residencies.
Her sculptures and furniture are represented in most major Australian galleries and collections, including Parliament House, Canberra and the War Memorial.
She has represented Australia in many overseas art residencies, e.g. in Norway, Armenia, Georgia, Ireland and New Zealand.
Her wide experience as a teacher/mentor includes gaols, forensic acute mental health, migrants, many First Nation communities and schools at all levels of education.
